Jammu, Sep 10 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 5,000 bribe at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district, officials said.
In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said that the ACB had trapped and arrested ASI Talib Hussain, posted at Police Post Talwara, in a bribery case.
He said a case under FIR No. 08/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was registered against the accused public servant at ACB Police Station, Udhampur. ASI Hussain, acting as the Investigating Officer (IO), had allegedly demanded illegal gratification from a complainant in exchange for presenting a charge sheet (challan) against the accused persons before a court of law.
The spokesperson said the complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB seeking legal action. Upon receiving the complaint, the Bureau conducted a discreet verification, which corroborated the officer’s demand for a bribe. Subsequently, a specialised trap team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP)-rank officer was constituted.
He said that during the operation, the ACB team caught ASI Talib Hussain red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant. The arrest was made on the spot in accordance with due legal process, while the bribe money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses.
“Further investigation into the case is currently ongoing. This incident marks the second successful trap operation laid by the ACB at Police Post Talwara, District Reasi, in 2026,” the spokesperson said—(KNO)
